CORSETS AND | EMBROIDERY

by dailykongfidence

This spring we are seeing corsets and embroidery filling up our Instagram feeds, magazine pages, and fashion week spreads. When it comes to being a woman in her 30’s, sometimes I see trends and think I am too mature to pull them off or I am not bold enough to try the trend at all. I think from time to time we let creep into our heads and prevent us from taking risks.

Not allowing age to dictate what trends I should follow, I stepped out of my comfort zone and went for it. Instead of a corset belt which I felt was a bit too bold and sexy for me, I went with a corset tee, something I think I could totally pull off. And for someone who you would rarely catch in anything floral, I went out of my comfort zone and jumped on the embroidery trend with this miniskirt from Zara (direct links to outfit down below).

Top | Zara
Skirt | Zara
Shoes | Public Desire
Sunglasses | ZeroUV
Wristlet | Alexander Wang

What I’ve come to realize with trends and fashion is that it is all about finding what works for you. That being said, I’ve rounded up my favorite corset style tops and embroidered pieces that even a woman in her 30’s or older can pull off.

You are one of my biggest blog inspirations!! I often feel afraid to try unique styles for fear of being judged by my peers, being a teenage girl. Love this look ❤

Omg, that just made my day Jordan! Thank you so much. Honestly, it is tough being a teenager for sure. There is judgement and scrutiny everywhere. But honestly it passes and once you are comfortable in your own skin you stop caring what others think and do what makes you happy.

Thank you Lindsey. I tend to shy away from color but I am digging the embroidery trend lately because it is a fun way to add florals for spring without having it as an all over print.

This is my first embroidered piece I think and I am definitely loving them on denim and even on boots. I think florals can be daunting but start with just a little patch here and there and work your way to more embroidered pieces.

Reply
dailykongfidence March 17, 2017 - 3:52 pm

They have it in white too! You’re absolutely right, embroidery can definitely get to the granny status but pairing embroidery with other complementary pieces can help take the embroidered piece to modern and current status. =)

Haha! I didn’t know that there is this thing called corset tee! It’s a fashion innovation ~ who knows it will be the next IG trend? I don’t really fancy the idea of wearing corsets (I’m not young too) because the idea of restricted eating makes me feel sick *LOL
Seems like you managed to pull this look pretty well 😉 Guess I need to start exploring on embroidered pieces too!

Reply

You are too funny about corsets restricting you from eating. I definitely don’t need anything to prevent me from my food that’s for sure. I honestly think the corset trend is just a new take on the old lace up trend.

It sounds like a cliché, but age is but a number! Don’t you worry about whatever number it says on your passport, you are as old as you decide to be. 🙂 And stepping out of your comfort zone both by wearing something more bold than you’re used to and then adding florals to that is just perfect in my opinon! An outfit perfectly put together!

I just bought a bunch of stuff from Zara over the weekend and I wish I had picked up a corset tee as well. This looks so flattering and your embroidered skirt looks really good, it is such a popular trend right now. I too wonder sometimes whether a trend is too young for my age, but you are right, fashion is about dressing for yourself and age is just a number.
